LINC Classes- Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada

  • Who is Eligible

    The classes are free of charge. LINC classes are intended for permanent residents and convention refugees only.

  • Program Intake

    Day and evening programs are available. Schedule and type of program depends on the location. Students interested in LINC will need to undergo an assessment test in order to determine the appropriate level to be placed in. They must set up an appointment for language testing at the YMCA.

  • Daycare Service

    LINC locations offer on-site childminding for children 18 months to 5 years old at no cost. Students may also be eligible for assistance with TTC tickets.



  • Who is Eligible

    COSTI’s Enhanced Language Training (ELT) program is ideal for Internationally Experienced Professionals who have prior experience in the Accounting, Office Administration and Customer Service, Teaching, Information Technology, or Health Care sectors.

    Services are available to individuals who have acquired professional qualifications outside of Canada and who have been unable to access employment in their field of expertise.

    Individuals must be able to communicate at an advanced level of English, and have occupational training and experience in the respective profession or trade.

    Participants must be landed, conventional refugees, or individuals on a Minister’s Permit. Language assessments will be arranged to determine eligibility.

LTW- Language Training at Workplace

  • Who is Eligible

    The LTW program is available to employers at no cost and offered to employees who are permanent residents or convention refugees.

    Language Training at the Workplace (LTW) offers job specific language training to employees who are in need of English as a Second Language based on the request of the employer.

    Training is provided on or off the employer’s site. Training is customized to the organization’s business needs. Employers select the topics and language functions that are most suitable for their business environment.

    Flexible class schedules can be arranged to accommodate employees’ work hours. The LTW program is available at no cost to employers.

TDSB Adult High School

  • Program Description

    Our adult schools offer a variety of credit courses for learners who want to complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma, prepare for college or university, or gain job-related training, along with specialty programs like Personal Support Worker and Practical Nursing.
    We also have EdVance, a program specifically for 18-20-year-olds completing their high school diploma.

  • Who is Eligible

    Over 21 years old. Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee. Refugee Claimants with Study Permits.

  • PLAR – Prior Learning Assessment Recognition

    Credit for learning and experience outside of the classroom.

    Are you:

      • at least 18 years old?
      • returning to school as a mature student after being out of school for at least 1 year?
      • enrolled in a Toronto District School Board (TDSB) high school credit program toward the Ontario School Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)?

    If you answer yes to these questions, you may be eligible for Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR). This is a formal evaluation to grant high school credits for past learning, training, work and volunteer experience, hobbies and interests, and knowledge of a first language (other than English or French).

    You could be granted up to 26 of the 30 credits needed for an OSSD through the PLAR process. The last four grade 11 or 12 credits cannot be granted. They must be earned through formal education.

ELT- Enhanced Language Training

  • Program Description

    Enhanced Language Training helps internationally-trained newcomers improve their business English skills for the workplace and gain Canadian experience. This 14-week program includes an 8-week in-class training portion and the opportunity to obtain a 6-week work placement. Classes are taught by industry professionals and offer the opportunity to network, improve employability skills and use tools and equipment to facilitate learning.\r\n\r\nThe program focuses on the following sectors: Accounting, Customer Service & Administration, Engineering, Financial Services, Health & Wellness, IT, Logistics, and Sales & Marketing

  • Who is Eligible

    • You are committed to a full-time 14-week program to find employment
    • You have international experience, education or training in the selected program sector
    • You have CLB level 6 or higher
    • You are a Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee
    • Pre-screening for suitability is required
  • Program Focus and Schedule

    Classes are held from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m, Monday to Friday. The program is followed by 12 weeks of job development support to help participants with job search and interview participation.
